Mee too! I always look forward too seeing them in the winter at the bird feeding table. Their brilliant red stand out in the snow so beautifully!

:) I can imagine. That must be so nice to see. I have only seen them briefly a couple of times.

that`s really an economic way to use an old bed-shed ;-)
and it works out wonderful. i love your ornamental stile and the simple and clear
and powerful grafic sight a lot.
Maybe you should take a camera in your hands and show
us a bit of china too :-)

The camera and I do not communicate that well unfortunately, and I NEVER have the camera with me when those special moments occur... but I do write and post some photos of my life here in China on my blog on moedkorpela.wordpress.com. I would prefer not to mix my bad taken shots of china with my art... ;-)
And old bedsheets are the best!! They are already faded by use and time, soft, and last but not least economical! I have tried to buy some new fabric for these kind of paintings, but when they are new the colors and the patterns are too strong and sharp. but I will keep on looking for the next perfect fabric...

Thank you! This one I painted back in 2009, 2 years before I moved to China. I got the idea actually while living in Scotland...=D I wanted to paint realistic birds on abstract backgrounds, but my first attempt of abstract painting was a disaster. So I had to find another way of approaching the backgrounds, and through trying out different things got the Idea of painting directly on fabric with a pattern, and on book pages glued to the canvas.
This blue fabric is actually an old bed-sheet... But you are right on the chinese influence. I have often admired the simplicity of chinese painting!
